TikiMiss is right. The ''Madonna'' type of pop star doesn't fit the mold of what the current generation craves. Do you think Justin Bieber, 1D, Selena Gomez etc would be as famous as they are if people didn't care about or exploit their behavior and personal life? None of them are famous because of their ability to re-invent themselves or because they are particularly good artists or musicians and performers.
And that didn't stop them from making MILLIONS for their labels [in the case of 1D and JB].
All of those are teen bubblegum pop acts living in the digital/social media era. It's not really just because of Britney, ya know?
She's an actress, not a celebrity. She's supposed to be good, not famous. And acting wise she absolutely destroys Angelina.
Where did I ever claim she's a bad actress? (though I'm personally not impressed but then again, I do stan for the most iconic actress of our generation so my standards are very high). I simply said most of the world don't recognize her name and she a nobody. Both true. Deal and move on.
No, they didn't. Mariah's only two global eras were Music Box and Daydream. Anything onward sold less than 3M worldwide. The exact same applies for Janet as well. You've already expressed your opinion on how you feel about Madonna, so I'm not going to bother. However, saying that she has no impact is something to be called delusional. If Madonna hasn't, Mariah and Janet sure haven't, either. And what are you talking about? Most of these girls are inspired by Madonna, including your favorite. The most recent example of anyone being influenced (heavily) by Mariah is Ariana, and Ariana said that her record drew influence from Madonna. And I'm not even going to bother with Janet.
All Madonna has is numbers and controversy. She got the album numbers in a sleazy way though but karma is obviously biting her in her saggy everything because she stopped being of uses in like idk. The only song Madonna is known for now is Vogue. I seriously can't think of a song of hers that people still use. I can think of a lot from Janet and Mariah though.

And I didn't say it was because of Britney. That wasn't my point. My point was that the Madonna type of pop star just doesn't fit around nowadays. And there's nothing wrong with that! Generations change and they have different aspects of what they desire from a pop star/celebrity/musician.
Madonna is the blue-print of every major pop star for a reason. She outlasted her competition by utilizing the skills she had and evolving. Her competitors like Mariah, Janet, etc. all flopped about one or two eras into their prime and slipped away into irrelevancy and lackluster success since then. Madonna has peaked, flopped, and been on top again. Most of these girls are just peaking and then flopping with everything afterwards.
You were only 8 in 2005, so I'm sure you don't remember one of the biggest comebacks of all time.
A mess.
but ddd @ Mariah "flopping one/two eras in her prime and then becoming irrelevant" when her first #1 was in 1990 (before you were born) and last one was in 2008 (when you were 11). Her last sing reached #15 and went platinum. Madonna "outlasted" Mariah only in touring.

Exactly. From Madonna, to Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, then Lady Gaga and now Adele.

She's very unpretentious. She'll do anything. Any genre. Any medium. Like in 2010 when she went back to "As The World Turn" because it was ending its 54-year run and she got her start there in 1985.
Hmm I somewhat agree now that Ozzy cleared it up . I misinterpreted what you were saying.
Overtime, the standard popstar is going to change. But obviously that doesn't make legends any less iconic
It's only going to get worse, imo.
And no, I wasn't belittling Madonna. Just saying that she had had her impact, but that it's limited now that we are officially in the age of social media.
Paris Hilton was definitely a leader in the celeb culture movement, but the general population didn't really begin to care about celebrity lives 24/7 until Britney's bad years.
sorry sis, but that's true delusion.
Michael Jackson dangling his baby off the balcony happened before Britney's breakdown, as did his nose surgeries, his skin colour changing & his 1st pedo case.
The Sex Book happened before Britney's breakdown.
Whitney Houston doing drugs happened before Britney.
Mariah's breakdown happened before Britney.
Paris Hilton's sextape happened before Britney.
JFK messing around with Marilyn Monroe happened before Britney.
Tell-all books & tabloid culture have existed before Britney.
Paparazzi have existed before Britney & the obsession with knowing minute details of celeb has always been there.
Exactly. From Madonna, to Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, then Lady Gaga and now Adele.
Adele is just a younger Norah Jones tho
And Lady Gaga's impact is yet to be felt. She's had some short term impact (as Britney did in her bubblegum years) from her debut and TFM, but longterm, she has yet to do so.
Her model was quite clever. A blend of Madonna meeting the Internet/Tumblr age. The downside was that as soon as she stopped being controversial with her outfits/videos, 50% of her interesting factor was gone.
