The breakdown made her a bigger and more unforgettable star than the White Janet she used to be.

Her breakdown got many people rooting for her, and that made Circus successful. I don't think she would have ever had a tour as successful as The Circus tour if she didn't have high profile breakdown. Knee's type is very replaceable with the next marketable pretty dancer. She didn't have the drive and cunning business edge Madonna had to achieve what she has.

But Femme Fatale proves the pity support factor can fade fast, and she's more irrelevant and unsuccessful now than ever.
