I didn't realise "Best Song Ever" was a successful hit. I thought it was pretty front loaded, and dipped in it's iTunes position almost instantly. It's been sitting around the ~#40 mark for a while now over here, and I thought that would have been the case for most of the world, but apparently it's been sitting in the Top 20 this whole time in America. I had no idea.

Hmm, that gives me a lot of hope for their new single. If their movie promo single can hold this well, then hopefully that means their new "official lead single" will have an even better iTunes run. Especially with full promotion.

Well, with BSE having been in Top 20 and with the buzz coming from TIU, I'd say that they probably have a better shot of having a great lead single coming into it next month.

@Penny: Collabs are very healthy for expanding audiences to their music. And for their actual collabs, I wouldn't mind someone very relevant to the scene right now, whether it's for urban or pop.

I feel like I'm asking a lot with this but I'm hoping their first official collaboration (or any of them, for that matter) isn't a 'rent-a-rapper' mess. I want a proper feature, not a 15 second cameo where you can tell the artists haven't even physically met and in the video they're filmed in two different locations. I hate those type of collaborations.

but if they do one with someone good & it turns out well then i would love it but just the idea makes me nervous lol

I know what you mean. I think from the top of my head a real proper collab would be like Kelly Clarkson's Don't You Wanna Stay with Jason Aldean or Britney with will.i.am or like P!nk's JGMAR with Nate Ruess. Definitely want that kind of collab myself.

But sometimes collabs directly in studio together isn't always possible though. Kelly Clarkson and Vince Gill both recorded their vocals separately due to different schedules but they still made it work.

That's mostly because you're exposed to many artists who overuse it. I can think of a yearly artist who does this a tad much.

You need to get into underrated/underground artists who use those collabs beautifully.

I don't care if it's recorded separately in the studio, but in the video I'd like to see that the artists have at least met and are friendly. I don't know, I think I'm sensitive when it comes to collaborations because I like to think of them as a genuine thing rather than a business move. Naive on my part, I know.

But the songs you mentioned are good collaborations, especially "Just Give Me a Reason". I guess I'm more into duets than feature verses (unless the track is proper hip-hop, then all the feature verses are great, lmao).

you're a mess. i used to try and stan for like a million artists at once but then it got to a point where i just had to cut my "stan" label with pretty much everyone and only really call myself a "stan" for a very limited group of artists. i currently "stan" for three artists, and 1D have their own special place in my heart that isn't stan-like but it's above most others. i still love and adore like a million artists but it's a lot easier to just have like four artists to "focus" on rather than trying to juggle a million in your signature and your posting. although some people can handle "stanning" for twenty artists so all the more power to them.
