The breakdown may have ruined her image, and people may think she's a complete lunatic, but it got people TALKING, and it got people behind her (to some extent).

All that negative press didn't stop GH:MP and its singles from doing well worldwide and wouldn't have stopped her from having another successful album seeing as she would,ve actually promoted it a lot unlike her albums post breakdown.
And Like I said it may have gotten people in the US behind her again but she lost a lot of her biggest markets because of the breakdown. I also remember her getting a lot of good press when she finally dumped Kevin and it seemed like she was getting her act together before she turned into a complete mess.
