"Back to Black" is one of the best songs of all time, and NO ONE will ever sound good covering it. No one can touch Godmy's original. They will never even come close.
Oh, please. If Beyoncé wanted to relate to that song, she could have done it in a more respectful and touching way, instead of making it sound like one half of Outkast cheat on her.
Alright, you say she did go through depression, but the lack of comprehension and understanding - and all-round classiness regarding the situation - in terms of interpreting Amy's work was astounding. She sang it soullessly and without any kind of pathos.
I like Beyoncé, but that was one of her worst moments - that, and gurning like an idiot with her bump at the VMAs.
Classlessness? Where? There wasn't a chance Bey could emulate Amy's tone..the essence of a cover is to put your own spin on it. She matched the style of the instrumental which in itself matched the whole dark vibe of the film/book.

I get almost a perfect score covering it on singstar
Beyonce sang Back to Black like she was having phone sex not like she was overcome with grief & depression. Beyst has never been that good at emoting. Poor Azul. Her mother probably bursts her eardrums growling lullabies to her at night. Bloooohoooooooooohooooooooooo I luhhhhh youuuuuuuu so mu-huh-huh-huh-uch! You are my looooooooooveeeeeeee!
I asked my dad whether he knows who Beyonce is. He responded: "Isn't she a girl who gives Gaga a ride after she leaves prison?' I nodded and then he added: "Oh well, she also danced around her in that video and did that funny thing with her mouth and telephone". I nodded once again

I get the same on Promiscuous, doing both Nelly and Timberland's parts.

Put your own spin on it? Yes!
Make it sound cheap and stupid? No!
And it's crazy, because Beyoncé is usually such a good interpretive artist. Her performance with Prince and of ''Fever'' >>>
