The fact that Nicki did pop is not the issue. Most (if not all) rappers who crossover have pop hooks in their songs. The issue was the KIND of pop she did. She was doing Eurodance records that completely abandoned her hip hop sound, and audiences did not like that. She kind of has the same dilemma Usher has. They are seen as sell outs. Nicki's attitude about it did not help matters either. It is never smart to abandon your core audience. Viley will soon learn this when her first week sales #s come in.

But WCS was still a POP song, though, that could of fit just fine on Pop radio if it was actually played more. And Wrecking Ball is a run-of-the-mill Pop power ballad [a great one, at that], so I think Miley didn't abandon her audience.
