As for looking for straight approval, that's something I can't quite wrap my head around. Our faves appealing to straights aside, some of them seem to think straight men are better than gay men. I have that Psyduck [ ] moment when I come across stuff like that here. I recall some comment here along the lines of "gay men just don't do it for me." Like, you're not gonna get anything other than a man who's into men (and women, but they're also against that) if you're gay. I just don't understand that kind of thinking. Going to back to straight men and female artists, some guys are genuinely into them but a lot of guys like them for their looks, especially female pop stars since most of it's built on superficiality. It's cliche but sex sells, and a lot of the women in pop are beautiful.

Anyway, gay or straight, fans are fans, but I guess to them having more straight fans makes their fave superior to the other pop girls.

I was thinking about this yesterday and I can only assume it comes from a cocktail of insecurity and ignorance. Nothing's special about straight guys (nor a lot of the ones people drool over on here, but that's another matter), but time and time again they put them on a pedestal as if their approval holds more weight than anyone else's. If it brings them pride, they are likely following that pop artist for the wrong reasons, and if it really mattered, they should move from pop girls on to stereotypically straight guy genres.

Sadly, that sort of thing pops up in so many forms here. Take the "Most Attractive Stanbase" types of threads, which is funny because in my experience genuinely good looking people don't start or get involved in that sort of nonsense. It just seems like a way for average to below looking people to gain some false sense of pride for something that is impossible to tell and doesn't even reflect on them. Stanbases and perceptions of ethnicity is another thing, but it's all too messy to get into at the moment.

ATRL's a fascinating place that's for sure.

Oh yeah and guys, cool it down a bit. If the messy life is for you, just learn to pick your fights wisely. There's no need to start rubbish for no reason and get warning points over something that's a result of your own insecurities. It's poor form. Don't treat yourself like grunts, and just discredit them or thrash it out in SYG if it really bothers you. You have more to lose than others in a lot of the cases.

When it becomes more apparent that a new era is on the horizon, stanbases try to create threads to try and get others banned and so many fall for the same honey trap time and time again. If you want to play that game, be smart about it and create perfect flamethreads for other stanbases to fight in.
