Madonna going black for Bedtime Stories was subversive because she was using it to portray herself as LESS sexual whereas the stereotype of black women is that they are sexual beings (which is what Miley is exploiting to changer her own image).
Shakira her dancing skills are so underrated/overlooked just because she doesnt do traditional pop choreography. She moves her body just as good if not better than J. Lo, Beyonce, and Britney.
