I think perhaps she is one of the biggest feminist proponents, but I'm not sure about icon. I don't think when people hear their name they think of feminism, but when you ask what is one of her major themes, you'd think feminism.

Jay-Z took her name too. It's a symbol of their love and connection, not a symbol of one overpowering the other.
The Carter surname is now a part of her but it does not define her. The tour is named after him but it's a BEYONCÉ tour. It is in her right as a woman to take whatever name she wants, same with HER tour.

I think though that the theme of the tour is about love and her new role as mother/queen, and saying Mrs. Knowles wouldn't really make the connection to Jay-Z through which she became this person. I don't think she's relying on Jay-Z for power, but using his name to paint a broader picture of who she is. She isn't just Beyonce Knowles anymore she has a husband and daughter she loves.

She's one of the biggest; She's a very self confident woman who makes her own money takes care of her child and husband and stands up for women to be independent and self made. So what if she took her husband's last name for her tour. I didn't feminist had to be bitter man hating ugly, people who wore pants suits and turtlenecks. That's why a lot of women shy away form being called feminist because they have such a bad reputation of tear their follow women down how don't follow their rule and what they think a woman should dress and behave.

Of course. She has always been criticized for her plethora of female empowerment material. All of sudden this is being questioned? Always an issue when it's Beyoncé for some people.
