Tbh they should have cut a little bit of time out of JT's performance for something devoted to Aaliyah but I wasn't surprised that they didn't include her.

I don't remember em tributing Donna Summer or Whitney at last years VMA's not surprised they didn't even give aaliyah some shine

I didn't expect such a tribute to her. I love her, but she was mainly a star on the Urban format and is remembered by Urban/Black audiences.. She never really go to crossover to White/Pop/mainstream. She was beginning to in 2000/01 with her first VMA win, her first #1 single, her first big movie role, her third album being extremely acclaimed and selling faster than the first two, etc., but then she died. If this were the BET Awards, she would have been mentioned.

That's so true. She was really blossoming; getting into major film roles etc. and bam. She's just, gone. It still seems unreal at times.
