I haven't listened to her mixtapes. But I don't think TTT had a cohesive theme I think the album is cool but it's kinda messy and seemed rushed to me. I liked Unapologetic's theme but I thought the body of work could have been better/more cohesive with some songs left off. Ah well GGGB - Rated R & Loud are flawless anways

All in all, I think Bey did a good job of exhibiting 4 to the masses.
I mean just look at how LoT sold after the VMAs!
It wasn't a single, but people heard it and connected to it. And that's the goal at the end of the day.
|
True. It was only badly managed in regards to how she didn't properly utilize the attention she was getting at times to translate into chart positions etc.
But she has already stated that wasn't her goal.

There is nothing radio friendly about Run The World.

Agree, I really wish she put more effort into her "eras" then her singles (no shade) it kind of makes me wonder how she feels about the whole thing, sometimes It feels shes just too consumed in her personal life then in her music

Anyway, it should be said that while people are bringing up 4, it doesn't mean that Beyonce hasn't also been a singles driven artist. DIL surely would not have sold so much had it not been for her hits. So this really shouldn't be a Rihanna vs. Beyonce thing.

RTW's production didn't make it radio un-friendly...
The lyrics did.

UA is about 3.2 and 4 RECENTLY crossed 3. It's sad that they're so close when Rihanna has had all the hits she's had.
You guys can keep trying to make it seem like doing just over 3 million is good with the amount of hits she has, but it's not. Once she stops making hits her album sales are going to sink even further.
Hell, at this point, she should be able to sell close to 3 million off name along. Having WW #1s should have her crossing at least 5 milli. If Bey was to have had any kind of #1 from 4 it would be wayyyy past 4 million at the least off that ONE hit alone.

It was brought up and fits in the topic of albums selling without #1 singles, so why not ?

In a sense, a lot of artists y'all claim as 'album artists' are also driven by singles.

and 4 is a bit different considering that it was a hyped release after the IASF era and there were other factors that contributed to its sales ability than just her name lol

It slowly became that, I think Rihanna is just more of a singles driven artist then lots of other artists out there (including bey & taylor)

That is not the topic at all. The topic is if Rihanna is a singles driven artist.

So TTT wasn't a hyped release after LOUD, and a 10 week #1 single, comparing it to a Madonna album?

It's clear that she just to take a break and spend her money. But Def Jam is clearly not here for it. I wonder how should be on a different label.

No, it wasn't.
Unlike IASF => 4, Loud => TTT didn't have a clear divide when the new era started.
The fact that the GP thought WFL was a part of Loud but the fact that TTT still sold 3+ million WW speaks volumes about the GP's desire for Rih.

Very fair point.
I do think there was an element of confusion in the order of things which stunted the performance of each consecutive single.
Anyhow, back to Rih.
She's a single driven as they come. The girl's only as successful as her last (fan acknowledged) single.
