I posted this iconic poem by Maya Angelou in a thread about shade
Patti’s grins, at Aretha’s chins
The fact Toni has no money, to spend.
Dionne smokes, and Fantasia can’t spell
We may go, but no Blu Cantrell.
Whitney moved up, however, she’s still throwing shade
Because shade lasts forever.
Flat notes, Mary dear.
Janet’s voice, we cannot hear.
Mariah, whistle register no sound,
Aretha Franklin, Burger King crown.
It’s time for now,
Because shade lasts forever.
Shady days, shady nights,
Finding the light in spite of Aretha’s hate blocking out way,
And I’m telling you, no Jennifer Holliday.
Thirsty Braxtons sound like winters and marches,
Patti’s eye brows, golden arches.
Coconuts, falling from the sky,
Will be the next reason why,
Rihanna’s got a black eye.
Beyonce, and her great vine child,
And her husband’s face reminds me of man versus wild.
No, Dionne, I haven’t forgotten about you,
Though the music industry has.
You may be a shade queen,
But your cloud has passed.
Just like your style, your relevancy, and your fame.
The sad part about it is,
That face still remains.
The words I speak, are very right.
You can’t shade me,
Because I’m always in the spotlight.
Because shade lasts always.
