Madonna was the it-girl of the 80's and the beginning of the 90's until Erotica. And then Mariah came and took that spot.
Music Box and Daydream did extremely well global. Her other albums did 2M or under outside of the US and Japan after Daydream.
In general Mariah only had two global eras and she fell off. Madonna was global, fell off, and got back up. Mariah could have stayed consistent if she evolved image wise and musically
