Of course there was material. At the end of last year, Pepcé was finishing up the album and her team started planning the promo storm. Super Bowl, huge new tour, new endorsement deals, etc.
Then in January, expecting Columbia's approval to be a mere formality, Pepcé was dealt a devastating blow.
"There are no hits on this album, we won't release this. We won't make the same mistake twice."
With no time left to re-record the album, she embarrassingly had to go through all the promo and the tour with no new music. All she could do was use it in her commercials, release snippets, and sing one or two of the new songs on tour. It's actually quite admirable how unscathed she made it out of this disaster; if anything, the lack of new music has made people appreciate Pepcé more, because it's when she releases music that people realize they don't really like any of her songs.
