It was a bit of a format challenge maybe? Those songs weren't really in line with top 40 at the moment. Or necessarily pop/urban. The rigidity of radio is one of my least favorite aspects to modern biz.
What do you think about the unofficial worldwide chart MediaTraffic? Also, do you think it's possible for Billboard to have an official "worldwide" chart? Maybe tracking sales from the biggest markets in the world?
I really thought that, with a generation-defining monster smash like "Call Me Maybe", a likeable personality and a solid pop debut, Carly Rae Jepsen would become a 'big pop girl' at least on the level Ke$ha was in 2010.
Why do you think she failed to connect and has been sadly relegated to one-and-a-half hit wonder status as of now?
Bill, I know Pop radio is famously close-minded and scared of anything different, but why are they so terrified of We Can't Stop despite strong sales and streaming? It's just a party song after all. Nothing offensive minus a few mild sex/drugs innuendos which have never bothered radio before.
ATRL mods are not going to warn the Editorial Director of Billboard for shade.
I'm here to be part of a list, not to get special treatment. I hope I'm held accountable to same standards as everyone else.
And I hope I don't get banned too quickly!
Oh and final question: Do catalog album sales factor in "The artists of the decade" ranking? i.e: will whatever Taylor Swift sell from Fearless (released in 2008) in this decade count, or it's only for releases in that time span 2010-2020? .
