I wanted to ask you why you think Mariah Carey's #Beautiful underperformed despite its stellar start? Is it because of ageism? Most artists past 40 these days are struggling to get a hit. #Beautiful was a beautiful, breezy, summery song and I can say that most of us were shocked with how it fizzled out quickly like that on the radio but staying stable on streaming and downloads for awhile after.
And, most of us do know that you don't exactly LOVE Mariah's music but is there something you can tell about the upcoming album? Do you know when the album is probably getting released? What about the second single, is it any good? When will it come? What do you think of the music (if you've heard some of them)? Do you think it has a chance of bringing quality music back to the music industry or can we expect it to flop & fade into obscurity? Personally, I believe that she should've kept the original release date of 7/22. I think the album could've succeeded more that way but I'm all for the new release date if the album brings good quality music.

I agree with this. No Doubt faced the same problem last summer with Settle Down.

Some of the questions in here though, I think we should be using this as a platform to know important stuff not asking him if he likes macaroni or spaghetti

Hey Bill
Do you know if Big Time Rush have sold 5 million copies of Albums/Singles/EPs WW as many articles have stated all over the internet? If not maybe you can give us an approximate

Two questions: From what you've heard, like from inside the Billboard offices and other sources, do you think Britney's next era is going to be a big one for her? And do you know anything about her Sept. 17th countdown clock?

What do you think about Hilary Duff, do you think her new album will flop or smash?

I think she's struggling on two fronts. One, there's the ageism thing in pop. I definitely don't agree with it - in fact I think it's completely awful - but it seems that pop only accepts teens and young 20-somethings singing frankly about sexuality. Xtina and Janet are two examples of women on the wrong side of this bias.
I think another dynamic possibly working against her - and this is just what I hear, not what I've seen - is that she hasn't completely endeared herself to some in the business. It takes a village to be successful - promoters, producers, label execs, agents etc. If you end up with a reputation as being difficult or under-appreciative, it doesn't help you when you're in between hits. Those are the times when you most need the best folks in the biz to want to help you.
Again, I've just heard these things second hand. She was nothing but sweet to me in person.
So what does she need to do if she wants to make a comeback? It all begins and ends with the quality and positioning of the songs. Id say party/Club songs but more upbeat/positive. I'd also like to hear a ballad or two that can stand next to Beautiful. Songs about empowerment and overcoming adversity.
Then she needs to work. Endless promo. A run of small Club dates to reconnect and build buzz. Radio promo out the butt. That sort of thing.
I think the most important question at this point - for her or for anyone in her situation - is, does she really want it?

Hmm, I don't think ageism has to do with her lack of success, considering that other stars in her immediate age group, such as P!nk, Britney, and Beyoncé are still seeing great commercial success. And I don't think the rumors of her being rude or bitchy stop her success, especially considering the fact that Madonna had great consistent success despite similar rumors.
The last paragraph is something I've wondered about. It's clear she wants success, considering the fact that the album and it's imagery were very generic, at least in comparison to her previous albums. It's a lack of promo that seems to screw her up in the end. "Your Body" had great hit potential, and while I don't recall it's radio success, I do believe it reached as high as #4 on iTunes, which showed it's potential. And then, even with The Voice as a huge promo tool, nothing came out of it. Actually, I'm pretty sure she has never performed "Your Body" live. Also, "Just A Fool", her collaboration with Blake Shelton, showed huge potential (a single promo performance sent it to #7; when it fell out of the top 100 on iTunes, a single tweet by Blake sent it up 50-60 spots). Yet even with a huge hit on her hands, she didn't even a film a music video. More recently, "Let There Be Love", a surefire hit, reached #1 on the Dance charts, yet she never even bothered to release it.
Sometimes, I wonder whether it's RCA who are making such horrible decisions, or if Christina has lost all motivation in her career.

Yes. It will happen on march 24 of 2014.
kidding aside, I'll probably skip all of the "will ____ get a no 1 album" questions. Since they are all about talented singers and performers the answer is always the same: the right song plus the right moment creates endless possibility. Would anyone in their right mind predicted even less than a year ago that two of the biggest songs of the year would be daft punk and Robin Thicke?
I'm also not going to do soundscan lookups. It's not my data to share freely.

I wouldn't bet against Britney at this point.
And just guessing now, but single? I need to ask around on Britney.

Bill, a couple of months ago you predicted Drake would open with 600k with NWtS. Are you sticking with this prediction for the Sept 24th release?
Who do you expect to dominate the fourth quarter Hot 100 & Billboard 200, respectively?

Bill, what are your thoughts on Rihanna's album to singles ratio in the US? With seven albums released, Rihanna is nearing 10M albums in the US and approximately 50M singles. That's a 1:5 ratio.
Do you think that in this day and age, where an artist is only as big as his or her latest hit, and where albums are no longer at the front and center, that Rihanna is at an advantage by pumping out hit after hit despite the less-than-stellar album sales?

Bill, if there is one song you could go back in time and retroactively make a #1 hit on the Hot 100, what would it be?
Mine is Missy Elliott's "Work It." Not only one of contemporary rap's great performances, but ten weeks stuck at #2 is just plain cruel.
