history has shown musical tastes to be very much like a pendulum, especially as it relates to dance. so it would seem likely that dance - at an apex these past couple/few years - is likely to start receding. that said, times are changing, the world (obviously) is embracing technology more and more every day, and dance just sounds a little more contemporary than rock.
still, if im a betting man, i think you'll hear some big rock breakouts in the coming couple of years and top 40 will once again be hospitable to guitars - even if they are awash in effects a la Imagine Dragons.
