Right now, YG strongly relies on Big Bang to pull in profits. And with 2NE1 beginning to grow stale and falter sales-wise, they will become increasingly dependent on a group which will be out on hold soon due to army enlistment.

He expects the winning group to be YG's flagship group for the next 8 years, but that is truly a extremely difficult aim. He caught lightning in a bottle with Big Bang, but I doubt he'll be able to do the same and ride on the success of the winning group. The chance that it will be able to reach the same heights success-wise as Big Bang are low and it's risky to place all his cards on that one group. If he can expand and debut both groups along with the girl group he's been teasing, he wouldn't have to be so dependent on a single group to rank in big profits, even if it means each group isn't as successful individually.

How is it a waste? We're getting solos for 4/5 members including the long-awaited Taeyang follow-up. They're using the off-time wisely and giving fans what they want.

I also don't mind waiting for the new big bang because:

1) The wait isn't nearly as long as we had to wait between Remember and Tonight
2) The Alive era lasted nearly 6 months when you count Still Alive, so we got quite a lot out of that era!

Basically. And Big Bang is probably the YG act with the least problems getting stuff out tbh (well except maybe Lee Hi ). They put out albums / solos at a good rate. Or if they aren't doing either of those they're at least pretending to be busy in Japan. 2NE1's team could take a page out of their book.

Anyway, that's not the way K-Pop (and especially YG) rolls. Solos and subunits give members a chance to shine outside of the group setting and I think also help quell any tensions in the group of one wanting to go solo but not being allowed to like it is in the west, which also makes the group stronger and longer-lasting.

It's smart marketing and makes them MORE money to have solos and subunits in addition to group releases. It also means that some solo members will already have established solo careers when/if the day comes that the group breaks up. Waiting for the group to break up / enlist to start solos is just dumb business.

I'm fully aware of the existance of opinions, but let's not beat around the bush, it's almost a fact they are superior as a whole.

And i'm not saying they have to release album back to back to back, there are plenty of time for solo activities between albums. What i'm saying is that you don't have to completely ignore group activites to have solo activities like Big Bang has.

Anyways i'm just a casual fan, so i'm not going to put much energy into this debate. I guess that's just how I look at it since I prefer BB together and practically dislike GD's stuff (which makes up 70% of their solo work).

Imo Big Bang is one of the few groups that's just as good solo as they are together. That's one of their strengths imo. But I also respect your opinion as well.

I don't see how the group is being ignored tho? You wouldn't want to release solos at the same time as the group comeback anyway because one would probably overshadow the other.
