"Bad Romance" and "We Can't Stop" were both love it or hate it songs when they came out. So their videos had the power to sway opinions and ignite massive support.
"Applause", so far, has a lot of hate because it's relatively generic and not so polarizing that you can't make up your mind if you like it or not. Hence it falling across Earth, cause the verdict is kind of in by the public.
But obviously the door is open for it to sway some opinions, both with the video and VMA performance. It's just not 2011 anymore, electropop is not so easily gravitated to anymore.
