They are mixing (well not all), but they need to do a continuous mix of songs for a long period of time, and that usually takes more than just hitting the play button. Talented DJs mix songs on the spot and blend them together to create a great set. So they are mixing, changing volume levels, dropping beats, fading in/out, messing with treble, mid, bass, etc, all to create a flowing masterpiece.
