Listening to "Born This Way" now, after more than a year of not hearing it....the second hand embarrassment from that intro alone At the time it got some backlash but now in hindsight it was clear she had completely jumped the shark as a songwriter.

She even posted that sarcastic "LG is over!!11" video on youtube.
She needed an Only Girl (ITW) moment, and instead we got a Cheers (To The Fking Weekend).

Let's not act like y'all wouldn't be praising Applause to the high heavens if it weren't underperforming.

Applause is miles better than the dated, forgotten trash that is Born This Way, whether it's at #1 or #100. The verses are a bit messy and she's a bit hard to understand but it's still better than BTW.

She is capable, doesn't mean she'll do it this time around. I don't think Gaga wants to be playing in small half-empty theatres in a few years. That's what she's going to be facing unless she halts the decline. Nobody can get by on past glories forever. We'll see what happens. There could be a gem or two on the album.

TEOG, Heavy Metal Lover and other songs disagree, but her lyrics overall were indeed way better during The Fame eras.
