Q: Why aren't the points a sales estimation?
A: The point of the chart is to measure the worldwide popularity of songs and albums. If I were to use the actual market shares, then the US and the UK combined would dwarf all other countries. To me that is not very interesting. If you want sales figures, use sources such as IFPI or Mediatraffic. The points used for this chart have absolutely nothing to do with sales.
Most are either refusing to acknowledge the issue (though no longer denying it) or pulling Hive/Bionic type justifications about talent and impact beyond the charts.
Does she even have talent anymore? Where has she demonstrated this talent lately? Awful songwriting and stale performances.
Justin Timberlake doesn't have any iconic videos though. Maybe a case could be made for "Cry Me a River", but it'd still be a rather weak one. It was semi-controversial at the time though I guess.

I think that's why they are calling the award Lifetime Achievement and not Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
