I still don't get how Akon became so successful, especially at pop radio. His voice is incredibly off-putting, even though he has some good songs. He wasn't even successful in the Pitbull/Flo Rida. His singles did well, and they helped his albums sell.

Didn't one of his albums sell like 3 million copies just in the U.S. around '06 or '07?

I just wanted to love Applause like I did Die Young. I remember LOSING my **** when it came on in the club. I don't even want to go out this weekend because I know hearing Applause will just remind me of my disappointment.

His voice is easily identifiable, and good for hooks even though he is by no means a good singer. He was basically the male version of Rihanna.
