Katy Perry released her song "Roar" when Robin Thicke's song "Blurred Lines" was #1 on iTunes.

Lady Gaga released her song a day later as Katy's song had established a 40% lead over the #2 song ("Blurred Lines").

Lady Gaga is at 54% after about 10 hours of release up against a brand new single that has a 40% lead over last week's HDS #1, which sold probably around 350k itself.

Not only does this 54% in 10 hours mean Gaga is selling faster than Katy, but also Katy managed to post GAINS over the rolling effect, which means that she is still increasing in sales... with Gaga increasing even faster and having sold more since it's release. You will not see Gaga at #1 yet solely because iTunes shows the top sellers for the last 24 hours, while Gaga has only even been out for 10.

It is unrealistic to expect her to have gone to #1 as fast as with BTW, and it's illogical to say it's underperforming (just in case anyone was going to throw that word out there yet).

i guess another 24 hours or so will tell how she's actually faring! but i still believe.. had this situation been with the hype she had around BTW, she'd be way higher if not #1!

Actually, just 14 more hours should give us a good picture. See, BTW DID have a lot more hype, and this song was rush released. The situation is going to be a lot different.

All my predictions, personally, are right out the window with this rush release. I hope it allows her better longevity though!

I'm pretty sure she's going to have better longevity with this one. Applause is really good and most importantly it's very inoffensive. People won't really get turned off by it (compared to BTW and Judas which kinda alienated a lot of people) and its sound is a nice throwback to her singles from The Fame, back when she wasn't so tryhard. People may call it "generic" but I think it's the best move for her to open up her new era with.

Agreed.

It would make me really happy to see her do well enough to compete with Katy even a month from now or even hit #1 just before or after Katy - I'm only using Katy as sort of time marker, not just for the competition between the two. Like, I want this to have the longevity and radio acceptance of the Fame and Fame Monster eras, and I think that thankfully this song might be what she needs to get back that commercial appeal.

Didn't Gaga pass Blurred Lines at about the same time as Roar did? Plus, in the past 24 hours Blurred Lines has decreased in sales due to loss of #1 exposure.
