Interesting that for such an immature bubblegum record, TD sure did get alot of Adult Contemporary airplay. I think what made Katy stand out is that she does the traditional kind of pop instead of electropop and dance records with a drop ala Ke$ha and everybody else in 2010/2011.

Definitely, it's also why she will continue to get recurrent airplay through the years and why her songs are still selling much better than other acts stuck in the electro-pop/electro-house trend of two years ago. Her songs have a more timeless sound to them because, while they do use a lot of synths and electronic production, it's used in a traditional pop structure and sounds more organic. Also means her songs are easier to cover.
