Did your colleague mention anything about Ayu btw?
Yes we both love Ayu (and Utada), but I already knew that cause I talked to her about them years ago soon after we met. But we never really talked music much after that.

Ahh I see that's cool. Hope she still loves Ayu just as much, unlike you.
Oh and ayaka's cover album will be released in about a month. It features the music from legendary artists such as Mr. Children, Southern All Stars, Yumi Matsutoya and Utada Hikaru. The Queen making money even in the jungles of Africa
I Know there are many good songs in this genre, but, can ya'll tell me which songs are the most popular in J-pop. I really want to hear J-pop but i don't know how to start, i just know a few artists like Kyary, E-Girls, Namie Amuro and that's all.
I know I probably late but I'm so slayed by the HQ versions of Kumi's new songs Is there a release date for the album?

I think Utada Hikaru, Koda Kumi, Namie Amuro and Ayumi Hamasaki are the most popular J-Pop acts, but I'm not sure.
I'd suggest you to listen to some of their Greatest Hits album, I started with these ones:
Utada Hikaru - The Utada Hikaru Singles Collection Vol. 2
Koda Kumi - Third Universe (this comes with her 8th album Universe which is pretty good too)
Namie Amuro - Best Fiction
Ayumi Hamasaki - A Best 2: Black (I personally liked the Black version better, but there's also a White version if you'd like to try it)
Once you've listened to the GH you could try with some of these albums:
Utada Hikaru - Heart Station, Ultra Blue, Deep River
Koda Kumi - Japonesque, Trick, Universe (+ her last single/EP Sumer Trip cause really its songs are AMAZING)
Namie Amuro - FEEL, Past < Future
Ayumi Hamasaki - (miss)understood (that's actually the only Ayumi album I use with her Black/White GHs)
These are the albums you should enjoy the most based on the songs featured in the GHs I suggested you.
I also like Ai Otsuka very much, but I don't think she's that popular. Maybe you could try listening to her Ai Am Best GH

I think you would like Koda Kumi.
You should get her albums trick, kingdom, Japonesque and black cherry. You should also download some of her songs like real emotion, you, D.D.D, etc....
Another good artist is Ayumi Hamasaki. She's considered of the empress of J-Pop. I would recommend her best albums. I would also recommend miss(understood), I am..., secret, duty, love songs, next level, guilty, rainbow and memorial address.
There's also Utada Hikaru who is extremely popular. You should get her whole Japanese discography IMO.
Perfume are also really good. They're a trio and they do techno pop. I would download their greatest hits albums and JPN.
These are some of the most popular artists. I know a couple of artists who are not as popular. I could recommend you some stuff if you like.

You seem to like the "electro" stuff, so I highly recommend looking up Perfume. If you want the harder electro, you can look up capsule and saori@destiny.
A good segue out of the electro stuff are the more passive artists like ICONIQ, JASMINE, & Meisa Kuroki. Not the greatest singers, but they get the job done with interesting styles.
Finally, you'll want to look up the big guns, so definitely check out Ayumi Hamasaki for rock, Koda Kumi for your urban, and Utada for your indie-style. They all are unique in their own ways.
I'll give you a list of albums that are worth checking out, and in the parenthesis will be songs you should first look up:

Perfume - Perfume Global Compilation "LOVE THE WORLD" ("Laser Beam", "Spring of Life", "Nee", "One Room Disco")
capsule - Sugarless GiRL, STEREO WORXXX ("Sugarless GiRL", "More More More", "Step on the Floor")
