The warmth of summer had long since passed,
Leaving only the frigid sting of faded memories behind;
The frail sun that used to dance and play,
Hid shyly behind the barren trees
The frost had come early that year,
Dusting the once-vibrant landscape of my heart
With a silent, unprounounced snow,
Muting its joy and manifesting only sorrow and despair
The warmth of my now-empty heart provided no consolation,
But rather fueled my longing for a rekindled fire in my soul;
Even the ringing of holiday bells couldn't sooth the bottomless void
That consumed my entire being
The snow-laden town sang only a sorrowful winter song
Bringing hope, tattered by the force of the billowing winds;
Desire, buried under a blanket of white innocence;
And love, tarnished by the piercing tempest of a cold, savage December

"[Autumn is] the year's last, loveliest smile." ― William Cullen Bryant
Almost magically (or entirely tragically, depending on your disposition) marking the transition from summer into winter, autumn is nothing if not transforming. It sees the weather turn from warm to cold, it welcomes the earlier arrival of night, and it paints the world with magnificent hues of dark yellows, burnt oranges, earthy browns, and deep crimsons. With the chill of winter on the horizon, this is the time of year at which all of nature seems to burst with its final, most enchanting beauty. So reach for that mug of hot cocoa, slip into your favourite over-sized cardigan, curl up by the fire with a great book, and come along with us as we try to pay homage to an oft-overlooked but nevertheless wonderful few months.
Autumn, to us, represents three main things, and in an effort to make this trinity as well-rounded and definitive as possible, each of these three things has been allotted a spot. We also think of it as a season that allows for some serious introspection and deliberately chose songs that demonstrate this.
one.NEWBEGINNINGS
"Aprils have never meant much to me, autumns seem that season of beginning." ― Truman Capote
Our season has a strong association with new beginnings and starting things anew. The beginning of autumn marks the beginning of the new school year, new seasons of Television shows, the football season, and so much more, so it only seems right that we reference its renewing nature here.
prayer: The ideal song to describe autumn's refreshing ability to renew and allow us to start anew would be Beyoncé's Start Over. The song features Beyoncé yearning and belting to her lover that, despite all their problems, trials, and tribulations, they can wipe the slate clean and start fresh, start over to allow for a healthy, happy, and long-lasting relationship. The song itself is extremely powerful ― combining powerhouse vocals, gleaming synthesizers, and a desperate but relatable message, this song is an embodiment of what it's like to create a brand new start. Start Over is as inspiring, refreshing, and invigorating as autumn itself.
two.MELANCHOLIA
"Why is summer mist romantic and autumn mist just sad?" ― Dodie Smith
Unfortunately, despite its associations with fresh starts, autumn also represents endings. No more are the endless, wild, and uninhibited days and nights of summer. In their place are grey skies, early evenings, the crisp bite of cooler air, and, for most, the return of responsibility. The knowledge that another unforgiving winter is on its way is enough to cause many people to turn inward at this time, both physically and mentally.
Ozzy8923: Ellie Goulding's Dead In The Water speaks of this. I chose this song because it relates to the melancholy feeling that is, as mentioned above, associated with the autumn. The song proceeds from being lighter at the beginning to more dramatic towards the end in a way very similar to how the season reinvents itself as it gradually brings us closer to the cold, ruthless winter. Not to mention, I personally think the simple instrumentation and production of the song allude to the simplicity of autumn. It's a generally simple season; it doesn't have any especially severe stages like rainstorms (which we sometimes see in spring), excessive heat (summer), or strong snowfall or hail (winter).
three.GIVINGTHANKS
"I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion." ― Henry David Thoreau
Finally, autumn is a standard sign of the harvest ― when many fruits, vegetables, grains, and other foods grow and ripen. The most prominent autumn holiday, Thanksgiving, sees us give thanks for successes pertaining not only to the aforesaid harvest, but to all other aspects of life as well. At this time, many people find themselves gravitating to loved ones to reflect on the past year and to show gratitude.
U4EA: Mary Chapin Carpenter's aptly titled Thanksgiving Song may seem like an obvious enough choice for this challenge, but please remember that it is by, well, Mary Chapin Carpenter! If you ask me, its artist alone warrants some snaps for originality. It may be hard to believe this contemporary Thanksgiving classic was unleashed no more than five years ago; the sentiments it shares so effectively are some that have defined the holiday, and season in general, for generations now. In a quiet celebration of family, friends, and getting back down to earth with what really matters, Thanksgiving Song ends our trinity the way all autumns should end ― on a happy, fulfilled note, rich with gratitude and appreciation of all of the good the year has presented.
inSUMMARY
One may like it for its stunning autumnal foliage, its tricks, its treats, its invigorating crispness, its refreshing feel, the abilities it boasts to bring people together and remind them to be thankful, or the new beginnings it provides; or they may loathe it for the feelings of sorrow it can inspire, the doom and gloom of its short days and long nights, or the almost sadistic way it teases the imminent arrival of another, harsher season. But autumn will continue to be autumn, taking us all from summer into winter each year, and the three of us will continue to love it.

Of all 4 season, winter, spring, summer and autumn. Summer is the only season where we all feel that complete freedom and relaxation. It's the season of letting go, throwing parties, finding that summer romance or even discovering yourself. The great thing about summer music is that it has no boundaries, a summer song isn't defined by genre or even time of release. For our trinity we searched for 3 songs which we thought best encompassed our season and what it stands for.
☀☀☀
We begin our summer journey in the swinging '60s. Martha and The Vandellas sing about dancing to the music under the sun. The song is all about having fun and enjoying your freedom. "They'll be swingin' and swayin' and records playin', Dancin' in the street" This cute throwback is a quintessential anthem, praised by the likes of Rolling Stones as the best summer song of all time it totally captures the spontaneous and euphoric essence of a good summer party. We all come together for a good party, school is over, work is done, now is the time!

When you listen to heatwave you are instantly reminded of summer of fun in the pool, being at the beach, sippin' on a cold beer. "When the sun's out we just wanna impress, I stand in the clear I don't bother with mess" Summer is all about being with people you care about, going on a vacation and letting loose. This song represents the modern party song, confident lyrics and a fresh instrumental, you instantly want to turn it up and head to the nearest beach!

"Oh, when I look back now, That summer seemed to last forever, And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always wanna be there, Those were the best days of my life" ... Need I say anymore?! This is probably the most iconic summer anthem, it's classic rock n roll, it describes summer as being the best time of your life. A tale of growing up, falling love, seizing the moment and making memories. The perfect song to blast out at a BBQ. This brings an end to our Summer Trinity, in the words of Bryan Adams.. I guess nothing can last forever!

Taking it back to the early 2000's, we decided to bring back the infamous kissing trinity of the 2003 Video Music Awards for the occasion, or should I say, season. In retrospect, we struggled with a couple of themes but ideally, we wanted to connect our music in more ways than one. While connecting to the Spring theme took precedent, we also wanted the three artists to connect in one way, thus the VMA reference. We also wanted the music to compliment each other, thus the complimentary pop songs. Lastly, we tied in a Spring theme to the graphics, not just with the images but by being inspired by Twitter (Tweet = Birds = Spring. Yes?).
That aside, the overall concept was that we wanted to take everyone through a journey. A journey through Spring, from the very first moment Winter shows signs of forfeit and warmth begins to take over, to the miserable but cleansing rainy days, to finally, the rebirth of life leading to the final days of the season and early days of the next. Taking that into consideration, there are two themes working together. A literal theme of Thaw > Rain > Bloom and a less obvious but more important theme of Invigorate > Cleanse > Rebirth.
BRITNEY SPEARS
INVIGORATE | BREAK THE ICE
After the harsh winter months fade into the past along with the holidays and oversized coats but before flowers can bloom, there's a moment of thawing where those longing for warm weather find a sense of satisfaction. The depressing wintery hell shows signs of weakness as the ice begins to break and things begin to warm up, whether it's the temperature or the relationships you keep. You're not just melting away the ice, but the negativity and all of which may prevent you from enjoying the rest of the year. While Break the Ice is actually referring to breaking tension, the lyrics are actually quite compatible with early Spring. "It's been a while, I know I shouldn't have kept you waiting, but I'm here now..." describes the excitement of what an invigorating season can do after a miserable one.
MADONNA
CLEANSE | RAIN
"Wash away my sorrows, take away my pain"...Madonna sings over a spring-like beat. Rain in nature is a cleansing act. It is done to "wash away" the old to make room for the new and kick starts new plantation with an essential building block of life. This is what Spring is all about, washing away all of the death made from Winter and is ushering in a new era. "Rain" by Madonna is all about cleansing, renewal, and creation after a violent past. Once the rain sets in, rebirth may take place and Spring life can be sustained.
CHRISTINA AGUILERA
REBIRTH | LOTUS
The final phase of Spring. The newly cleansed earth makes way for new life. This is the beginning. Lyrically and sonically, "Lotus" represents a “rebirth”. It describes a woman who is re-inventing herself in a way. She is rising up, maturing, and setting herself free. “Lotus” paints the picture of an awakening, which correlates with the end of spring when everything is fully back to life and blooming. This is the beginning.

F**k Y'all brought it. This will not be fun to judge (well, it will, but ranking tho )
I'm kind of worried because all of the entries are so good
Plus all of them except for ours had really long descriptions and explanations. Hopefully our minimalism pays off
collin I just realized that the Wiley video is actually a snippet, idk what happened 'cause I thought I pasted in the music video :/ Sorry about that, hopefully the judges look up the actual song. Totally my mistake.
Results should come sometime before Friday, but don't quote me... I'm aiming for judge comments tomorrow night, elimination and new round Friday morning.
