I got an issue, and it's bugging me. I broke up with my ex a couple of months ago. We're students and we both have year abroads coming up this August till next July or so. He said that we should go off and do our own thing for a while and we both agreed to remain friends and to not just cut each other out of our lives, and when we get back if we still like each other, you know (he said it with a smile on his face). He recently said to me he thinks we can be good friends, and he was sorry things didn't quite work out.

My only issue is why would one want to remain friends? I do still like him, but the whole situation is not just new to me but a little frustrating, a no man's land. What should I do (besides going off and doing my own thing for my year abroad)? Just leave it as it is and see? I like clarity etc...I don't know if he's serious or he's trying to be nice to me to placate me.

Honestly deep down inside you know the answer since you know the guy/situation better than we will ever know it. If you don't believe he is being truthful or serious just go off and do your own thing. If you deep down inside sway the other way and you want to give it a try, just go for it when you two meet again. Sorry if this ain't the best advice for you tho but wish you the best

Thanks. It's just the uncertainty of it all either way tbh that irks me. It wasn't like we didn't like each other, but the timing ruined everything.
