People have said that about every alternative song basically... But the US does come around usually. Pumped Up Kicks, We Are Young, Somebody That I Used To Know, Too Close, Everybody Talks, Some Nights, Ho Hey, Radioactive, Sail, etc...
Just 4-5 years ago you would have never thought these songs could impact top 40 let alone the entire US because of there "harshness" as you claim these songs have.
Yeah, obviously several alternative songs have become huge smashes. Sail is already a selling monster regardless of how it performs on radio. I just think that if pop radio does embrace Sail, it'll be the "heaviest" sounding alternative smash that we've seen in the past few years.

This Lorde girl is so overrated, she's like a carbon copy of Lana del Rey and other indie/pop divas.
Her music is nothing like Lana's I find her pretty unique, especially for being 16. While other sixteen year olds are still in high school, she's making wonderful music she's been working on since she was 12. True talent.
NAWT frontloaded 1D still being in the top 2 (soon to be 3) as Ariana prepares to drop out of the top twenty.

There has been way more talk about Ariana smashing than ACTUAL smashing.
The Way was supposed to slay careers and peaked outside the top 10. Baby I was supposed to be a phenomenon and is divebombing off the itunes charts. Her album will be lucky to break 200k first week.
