It's a common practice at record labels. They pick two songs with the most single potential and leave the best one to support the album. First singles usually do well anyway because of it being a first single. RCA did it with JT. Arista did it Avril during Under My Skin too.

One thing is for sure, this song ***** on HTNGU's entire existence. I personally think it should've been the first single too.

I get that, but I think that when the artist is returning from an era that underperformed, the label should release the real smash of the album first to regain momentum. HTNGU did decently, but its performance is nothing that's gonna support an album or subsequent singles.
