Actually if anything, the countdown singles saved the era and album sales. After Judas she had so much bad controversy around her, PLUS the fact it wasn't performing as best as it could, the success of The Edge of Glory did the album release good. So it's not that countdown singles are bad, it's just that she needs to make sure the official singles are commercial enough to be successful.
I'm curious if she'll dominate itunes again with new single as she did with BTW
I think she will break Flo Rida's record. People seem to forget that she sold one million copies in the US in five days (iTunes said that) and now she will have a full week. She's not that powerful, but she will do more than 800k if the song is really good.

The physical album has been announced to cost €12,- upon release in Germany, it's already up for pre-order at some places. The price will probably become €17,50 later, as that is listed as the original price

But even without a second day of 99-cent pricing, "Born This Way" was on its way to a million-unit debut week, sources told Billboard. On the first day alone, the album moved at least 500,000 units, with sources saying that first day sales at iTunes totaled 104,000 units; Best Buy, 45,000 units; Target, 35,000 units and Starbucks, 10,000 units. Consequently, industry prognosticators project that Best Buy will hit 200,000 units by the end of the SoundScan week on May 29; Target will reach 150,000; Wal-Mart will hit 125,000, and iTunes will hit 200,000 units.
I think she'll be able to do 600k first week single sales. Let's not forget that the VMAs are in Sunday, which is still first week of the release. The question is, will she debut at #1 on the Hot 100?

#1 debuts are tricky nowadays, but I'm sure we can do it!
