Yup, it's a $30,000 fee if you're "selected" and you have to give your consent to get nominated. In modern times, the walk of fame has always had this underlying unspoken understanding that it's a lot about money.

But obviously you do have to be of a certain caliber of celebrity to be selected, so there's definitely congrats to be said.

I wonder how prestigious people think the Walk of Fame is. I know many industry people who were offered a star do not see it as prestigious or honorable. Many don't like the idea of folk walking on their names or the fact that you have to pay a fee just for one.
