Nicki sold out when she made Pink Friday then because everyone was like "Where is the Hood Nicki?"
Pink Friday is NOTHING like her mixtapes. Her flow and lyrics evolved and the production is modern instead of samples from the 90s and early 00s. The closest songs that come close to PF are the ones where she let her emotions out or was open and made herself vulnerable.
You can say that is selling out, but then you meet quite a few obstacles like that one because that means many of the most popular artists out right now sold out. Katy was a Christian singer, Gaga did not do as much dance stuff, etc.
They changed as artists and there is nothing wrong with appealing to a wider audience.
