I know you guys are joking around (I hope) but it makes me cringe when black people label themselves as "light skin." It's as if they want to separate themselves from being, well, BLACK.

As if being "light skin" is a ethnicity within it self. I'm black and I have a very fair skin tone but I would never define myself as being "light skin" -- such a ridiculous term. It further separates the black community. They even have club events where they have "light skin nights" which means only fair skin people get in. Then "dark skin night" the following day for those with a darker complexion.

I don't think it's that serious There is a stigma with the darkskin/lightskin thing, but it's mostly used in a joking matter.

I also don't know where that myth came from that light-skinned slaves were under the master Lightskinned slaves were treated WORSE than the others because they were seen as bastard abominations and of less value.

It's hilarious. My father and brother are let's say Ludacris's color and my mom is lighter than Alicia. And I'm dark. We ALL Black though.

I don;t like the separation and the classism that comes with it. I've only ever seen myself as lightskinned but welp.
