Not really. He said that if he had his way, he'd give the album away for free so that they could reach as many people as possible, and cash in on the tour.

Nothing about dropping the album out of the blue tho.

Yup. He seems to be very on the ball with music distribution and where the industry is going. A brilliant manager for Gaga.
I won't be surprised if eventually she does give her music away for free, and that becomes the standard. Sales will continue to drop because of pirating, which will result in even less money being made by music, so instead of fighting a losing battle...embrace and exploit it.
Create a website or application which is effectively a sponsored link that pays the artist/label per hit, and watch the hoards of internet folk filter in for a legal, HQ digital copy of your latest album. Whilst you'd forgo dwindling official sales, you could boast huge amounts of downloads and gather more accurate figures of who is listening to their album (plus, where they're from).
Who knows how charts will be calculated in future, but if they could class these downloads as a variant on streaming...sorted. Plus, If you make physical, deluxe versions of your album available for purchase for fans/internet illiterate in addition, you'd see extra cash coming in.
In terms of singles, they could release 2/3 on iTunes beforehand. Gain chart positions and sales from them all whilst promoting the upcoming album.
Like Troy knows, the real money is in touring. Encouraging many, MANY more millions of people to sample your music through free download all over the world will increase demand. People will listen to her stuff and be pleasantly surprised and convinced to invest in her further.

It's fine to follow her success, but there's a point where it becomes facts and figures rather than music and entertainment. Seeing people genuinely freak out over the possibility of flopping is a shame, and having fans threaten to bail because they can't deal with her not being top dog is just...disappointing.

It's not a case of generic leftovers, more that Zedd's solo stuff doesn't hold a candle to his collaborative work with Gaga. That was to be expected considering it's happened with all her producers.
