It's like they forget that the public likes other artists and styles. | Eh. I don't think the "trinity" will do that well on the charts anyway. Under the old rule (without YT but with just Spotify) I think they'd have missed number one with their lead singles entirely.

But as far as females go, they've been tanking lately. P!nk being the only one to make it to number one this year so far kinda spells trouble for others releasing down the road. I think the only ones who'll make it are Rihanna's lead single from album #8 and whatever Katy puts out.  |

 | Which was on... Youtube/Vevo, correct? Sure, it definitely works for charting now, but it didn't when Boyfriend and Live While We're Young were released. But On-Demand alone probably would have kept her from debuting on top.

Would-have-beens are pointless anyway. What matters is that if the labels play their cards right, the artists can manage it now.

ANYHOW.

Daft Punk needs to keep increasing with the green updates.    |

I think that Gaga, Rihanna, and Katy will make it to #1 on the Hot 100 - the first and third in their first weeks, at the very least - and I think that Britney has a shot as well. The poor reception of females this year is seemingly exaggerated by the lack of major female releases in the first half of the year. We've had P!nk and Rihanna out of the bigger female artists, and the others have been Disney/Nickelodeon girls.   |

Taylor Swift could have done it had she not accumulated so much airplay and WANEGBT debuted with that only

Taylor released "22" and it underperformed. Ke$ha also put out "C'Mon" and "Crazy Kids," and Rihanna's currently releasing "Right Now" to currently mixed results. And even before JGMAR, P!nk kinda struggled with "Try."  |

 | IKYWT was blocked in a week in which it was very strong and would have otherwise been a respectable #1. "Scream & Shout" might not have gone #1, but it was very strong for a Britney single.

The rest are really nothing out of the ordinary. Taylor never gets a ton of big hits with longevity, so two for her is normal. P!nk is someone who has always had some big songs and then some more moderate songs, and Rihanna's always been hit-or-miss. She had two major pop hits from TTT, and then a flop pop single - it seems to be the same this time around.  |

 | This still hurts me because BMR's thirsty asses didn't wanna put it on streaming.    |

Taylor never put anything on Spotify
WANEGBT would have spent more weeks and IKYWT would have reached the top spot

I've been SO confused with the argument that females are flopping, when there are literally none out. Ke$ha is flopping, but "Die Young" was stable in sales, it got to the top three of Spotify if I can recall and of course it did amazing in airplay. Not to mention it managed to reach #2 on the Hot 100. If she can do all of that under the new rules, I doubt people like Gaga, Britney and Katy who have bigger support than K$ will have trouble possibly reaching #1. We haven't seen what they can/cannot do on streaming, so it's premature to say they will fail under the new criteria.  |

Streaming might not be the best source of revenue, but if artists and labels want that prestigious #1 then adding songs to Spotify and Rhapsody will only help.  |

And as said, Taylor would've smashed if she released her songs to Spotify/sooner. "S&S" likewise did amazing on radio, streaming and stable sales - but of course nothing was stopping "Thrift Shop" or "Locked Out of Heaven" at the time, one with massive STIUTK/WAY sales (and everything else), the other still lingering from huge airplay.
I'm not arguing this saying I hope they come back, I love the current hits but just saying it's way too early to write them off like this and ignoring what they have achieved/can possibly achieve with their support.

Gaga especially is amongst the female artists that do garner widespread attention from multiple demographic. If she's going hard on the EDM, she'll have no trouble getting the secret Spotify plays from fans of the likes of Eminem, Imagine Dragons or Drake, etc.
