Still, WDKY was her most successful single. And I think Kelly really needs to step up her videos at least; she can get lazy as she wants elsewhere.

WDKY is one of her bigger hits WW but definitely not #1.Even in the U.S, I'd consider Since U Been Gone bigger. It was #4 on the years end chart too. WDKY was definitely bigger than I thought WW though. If only she had promo.

I've always noticed she'll heavily promote the first single then it drops off bar a few performances with the follow up singles. Consistency of the promo & getting her face on tv to the popular programs <insert UK flop darkside promo here> would go a long way.
|
I agree, I'd rather her spread out her performances for multiple singles if they are going to be limited. She always just does promo for the lead single...without radio support, those singles without promo are just destined to die.

She can start repairing her image by delivering on the MV of PLU. Too bad it doesn't seem like she cares enough to promote the song overseas.

Didn't Kelly herself say they were focusing on the U.S, I mean they practically paid Australia dust when she's usually HUGE over there.
In some ways it was kinda annoying because they had the potential make WDKY a huge hit WW, but in other ways it was kind of smart. After 2 albums which failed to sell over a Million, they really did need to pull together and focus on getting her name back out there in the U.S. They had Duets, loads of award shows, radio stuff in the U.S, even her social media numbers have increased a lot.
I imagine it will be the same with the Xmas album, they'll focus mainly on the U.S for that, maybe the odd bit of promo oversea's.
I'm just hoping with the next studio album they plan on fixing her lack of WW presence, they need to re-establish her in Germany, Australia, even the UK to an extent.
|
Yeah, I did forget that she said they would be U.S focused with Stronger. I also remember her saying they were aiming for longevity this time. I guess they changed their minds? Only 3 singles? That doesn't sound like longevity to me.
With that said, they could've done much better in the U.S too. It basically sold 1 Million off of WDKY alone. Dark Side should've been handled a lot better. She did increase her presence here though so I guess their plan did work in the end.
I just looked up her Australian chart success and...you're right, they let Australia forget about her
With her next album, she needs to have proper promo for every single and wait to tour until at least after the 3rd single is released...

How would Kelly have to repair her image? She just needs a worldwide career boost, that's it

I don't know though. With only three singles, after DS, it was clear they were moving ahead for the GHs album in November. Part of it had to do with aligning with Kelly's ten years since Idol and the other was probably the sales quarter.
So I don't think there was a way to extend Stronger's era any longer. With two eras back-to-back and several performances this past year, I'd say that Kelly became a little more relevant (hard to say from my perspective though). Although I doubt they're going to put much effort into the videos if Kelly isn't into them.

Girl needs to get out of Africa..
Where is Ellen? The Voice? GMA? Kelly and Michael? The View? Kimmel? Letterman? Leno? Conan? Fallon?
Let Me Down was written about her team from her fans perspectives.

I think by "image" "Edge" means she needs to repair how people perceive her. It is true, her WW image isn't looking to good at the moment.

Yeah, they definitely wanted to align the GH after 10 years but if that was the case, why'd they delay the album? I understand that the label made changes and everything but they should've delayed her GH since Stronger was delayed. Also, that still doesn't explain the lack of promo for Dark Side. Duets, screwed that up but she could've at least performed it on there.
Kelly has become more relevant in the U.S based off of What Doesn't Kill You alone but WW? She has become all but extinct...

So many essays Can one of you PhDs write my 20 page paper, please?

But either way you spin the analysis, Kelly has been on a positive trend to regaining weight relevancy and numbers since MD. She's finally catching the attention of many again, and I'm sure her next album will continue that trend.

I'm not writing your essay
Kelly has definitely become more relevant in the U.S and has slowly gained back attention and success.
As for other countries? I'd say no. Hopefully, PLU is released and does well because if not, she will have 3 failed singles in a row. As "Addicted" pointed out, she is normally very successful in Australia but she has been dead there recently too.
I have a feeling that RCA might just say screw it, and keep focusing on just the U.S.

My December would have done a lot better if they released addicted to give general public a taste of rock Kelly. You guys seemed to have forgotten the sabotage of Clive Davis just as never again was gaining traction. I seriously don't think the aiew era would smash like we hoped even if hook up was not the second single. The era was never going to be perfect.
And darkside is the best Kelly song of all time

+1
Every song on MD needs a repair. I don't want a Unreleased album, a Christmas album, or a Cover album. I just need the repaired My December with better vocals. I haven't listened to MD for a long time due to that awful production and vocals

In countries other than the U.S., it has just been the other way round. E.g. MLWSWY managed to peak at #6 in Germany, she had major promo appearances (on really popular shows, not that X Factor crap that no one watches), was featured in magazines and her songs were frequently played.
During the Stronger era, she was completely forgotten. Stronger was her only album besides Thankful to not reach the Top 10 album charts and MKIA was one of her lowest charting first singles (but still the most successful single out of the album). Her only promo consisted of a few radio interviews, two promo concerts and that X Factor performance. That's been in 2011. She hasn't done any promo here since, nor has she ever been mentioned anywhere besides in talent shows when contestants sang her songs.

Celebrity Roots Series "Who Do You Think You Are?" Returns
Good news for all those who mourned the cancellation of the American version of Who Do You Think You Are?, the popular celebrity roots series that's enjoyed success around the globe. It's coming back!
TLC picked up the show and has announced its relaunch on July 23rd. Among those slated for this season are lots of talented women, including Christina Applegate, Cindy Crawford, Zooey Deschanel, Chelsea Handler, and Kelly Clarkson.
Those needing a family history fix in the interim can't go wrong with HBO's hilarious Family Tree

KC and Chelsea can talk about their experience now! lol

@billboard
Blake Shelton says he has begun to organize a benefit concert for Oklahoma. NBC will air. No date but "soon," he says
I bet Kelly will be a part of this. In 2011 Blake and Reba held two benefit concerts for tornado victims in Oklahoma and Kelly was a surprise guest. They raised half a million.
