Artists don't pay money out of their own pocket for features, except on rare occasions, like mixtapes, and most of the time when it comes to mixtapes, artists do features on mixtapes as favors for the artist whose mixtape it is.

Girl, spilling that false tea. Nicki was big when Beyonce came out with 4. You don't think the Lady gaga thing had anything to do with it. It's not like Beyonce is the most original girl so Nicki's feature prostitution wouldn't hinder her chances.
