But Britney was not even that much of a deviation from her innocent image. The DWAD tour was flooded with tons of innocent childish themes and the album itself had kid friendly songs like That's Where You Take Me, Bombastic Love, Cinderella, Anticipating, I'm Not a Girl etc. and the only 2 overtly sexual songs were Slave and Boys but for the most part she maintained a clean image. ITZ was the full fledged adult transition, Britney just kinda paved the way.
I think the album sale decline is due simply to the fact that people were moving away from the teen pop resurgence and going back to a more urban/R&B sound and that hurt Britney and her dance-pop oriented music. Not because her fan base was mostly children.
