Back in 2005, TEOM era was the successful comeback of Mariah, she had a string of hits WBT, DFAU, SIO, but all due to a huge amount of airplay and minimal sale.

Then the career-saving hit Rude boy that smashed every radio formats failed to reach 3 x platinum.

The two first single of Loud, with that amount of airplay, you would think they should be over 4 million in sale.

I will not be surprised if HTNGU reaches 200m AI but barely sells 2 million

Payola doesn't make a song sell less though. Those songs didn't sell as well as expected because I guess they just didn't click with the public much.

WTH peaked @ #8 on Pop & #12 on HAC and still sold nearly 2 Million in the U.S. HTNGU would easily sell over 2 Million with that much AI. (too bad we are never getting that much AI)

Girl if this peaks lower on AI than WTH then it is utter floppage because WTH flopped on radio. The reason why it was a kinda hit and got to number 11 was explicitly iTunes.

That's what I'm saying, if radio supported her, she'd be huge again. Her sales are always strong considering the lack of radio support. I mean, HTNGU is doing great on iTunes considering her AI is so small.

"Smile" even peaked at #68 on the Hot 100 and only got to #25 on Pop...

Japan Hot 100 only counts physical sales and airplay, the CD won't be released so she's only charting there because of big airplay.
They had a chart for digital songs, but it was taken down in 2012...
Her digital sales won't be lost, because they have certifications for digital and physical formats.

Their main chart is the Oricon one, it counts only physical sales, and the biggest selling single ever is Born This Way and it peaked at #13 I think... The chart is useless for foreign artists since they can't sell singles like Jpn. artists...
The Japan Hot 100 is an alternative for western artist to have a chance to chart somewhere.
