I think of ballads as boring with monotonous instrumentals.

That being said, Touch of My Hand, electronic synths and all, feels more like a ballad than Criminal. Not that either could be categorized as one.

I agree, but don't you think they could be classified as a pop ballad? I think you see ballads as more "traditional ballads", like how they uses to be in the 90's, 80's, but you have to remember there are different variations of ballads, I think criminal can fit into the term "pop ballad".

I think TOMH is closer to that than criminal. Yeah I think ballads are more acoustic instruments driven with big voices. But Britney herself refers to them as mid tempos so

Touch of My Hand is mid-tempo, just like Criminal. A ballad would be Everytime or My Baby; dependent on less musical instruments. For example Criminal has a a flute, a guitar and a beat. whereas Everytime only uses a piano, much lighter.

The closest songs to a ballad we got since Someday were My Baby, Unusual You, and Out From Under.

This is how I look at it, everybody has their own opinion on what a ballad is, though. There are many members here who think Inside Out and Blur are ballads, which I think is wrong, but whatever.
