She needs a song that will sustain its position on the radio and iTunes and HIAM wasn't doing that. Criminal really is one of her best songs, it had no push at all, being the 4th single. If it were first single, it would have done the 400k its first week since its a new Britney single, and the general public would have actually endorsed it. With another generic club song, she will never have 4x platinum song. She needs to show diversity. Femme Fatale would have done a MUCH better job had Criminal been the first single.

It sounds crazy but makes sense.
One of the reasons "Criminal" flopped is because no one (except brazilians) listened to it, Radio didn't play it, video was censored and Britney never performed it.
But we all know that everyone listens to the first single of Britney, she would've promoted it singing live with acoustic type performances showing a more mature side of her, they would make a radio deal because its her first single, and she would've done a different music video, probably the song wouldn't become a top 10 hit in US but yeah I think the album would've debuted stronger.
Then "TTWE" as second single, "IWG" as the summer single and "HIAM" the experimental song for last november single.
