News: NK tells Russia, Britain to evacuate embassies in Pyongyang

North Korea has been screaming and releasing public declarations for years proclaiming that they are ready to bomb other nations. We have troops stationed in South Korea merely because they are our allies. Considering the North's blatant disregard towards the South coupled with statements showing clear animosity towards foreign nations, military presence is there for precautionary purposes.
Like Moonage Daydream said, it's a bit disingenuous to equate the Iraq War with this because Iraq NEVER WAVED THEIR NUCLEAR WEAPONS (or lack thereof) AT THE WORLD AS A BLATANT INTIMIDATION TACTIC. North Korea is simply using South Korea as a scapegoat to get into the war with the US. Russia and China want North Korea to calm the **** down, and this is coming from nations that actually have good diplomatic relations with North Korea.
I cannot at people always trying to white knight.

I'm pretty sure North Korea want to get the US' attention by starting war to South Korea.
Let's picture it this way:
Twin brothers (North and South Korea) who are complete opposites are at the same school. South helps North with some things but doesn't credit South back. South is USA's bestfriend and North despises him. He wants to start **** but can't since if he attacks USA he will be the mockery of the whole schools since USA is so popular so he will start **** with South first then USA of course as the popular kid will try to get in between them and then North will start doing some **** against the USA.
North Korea is using South Korea as a way to declare war to the US. But that's just my realization since it wouldn't be possible for North to declare war to South since they've been cooling it down for the past 4-5 years already. They minded their own businesses already and South tried to give funding to North for the past years.
That's my theory that North is just using South to declare war against the US and the US will obviously come to the rescue. Unconsciously falling for the bait. This is scary I tell you.

Serious question: Why would they declare war on the US if they can be wiped from the map in a matter of hours or even minutes if it's true that there are submarines with nuclear weapons near Korea? North Korea doesn't have any weapons that could reach the US main land and it's quite clear China won't have their backs as they wouldn't want to risk losing all their trade partners and thus economic growth.
North Korea STARTING the war is the dumbest thing they could do and the possibility wouldn't even cross my mind as that'd mean they'd be signing their death warrant and the end of their country. There was a time when North and South were getting closer in the last couple of years, until SK + US had to do a military training on soil that both countries have a dispute about.... It's quite clear to me who I think is to blame here

You're forgetting that other nations view North America in a negative light. North Korea is hoping that those nations would jump in to aid because they are itching for a war to begin. A shoddy tactic, but Kim is young!
As if pointing fingers is going to do anything here though! Your reasoning hinges on this train of thought: The US is provoking North Korea -> North Korea is going to war with South Korea.
You're reasoning falls apart there. You ask yourself WHY would North Korea declare war on the US when they are bound to lose, correct? Having a conversation with South Korea about wartime sort of dismisses your point considering the US WAS GOING TO BE INVOLVED WITH ANYWAY. So if North Korea declared war on South Korea then thy would be declaring war on the US, not vice versa. Simple as that.

You are forgetting the fact that Iraq didn't even need to threaten, because no one was triggering them into doing that... The US said they were convinced there were WMDs in Iraq that the country could use in a war or in a terrorist attack if they wanted to, which later turned out to be false, as there were no WMDs at all... They made up the weapons to start the war, i.e. they made the entire threat up and that was enough to start a war half way across the world in a country the US had no business with! What then makes it so hard to believe they would willingly provoke NK into threatening with nuclear weapons?! The US is flying B2 stealth bombers that can carry nuclear weapons to Korea, which any country would see as a major threat!
Also, in this case they know the country has nuclear weapons, so that makes it that much easier for them to manipulate the situation and start a war IF they want to. They cross some lines and borders, show some military power, do some military training on soil that both countries are fighting over and voila, NK is angry, severs all ties, outs a threat and IF they attack, the US will say they didn't do anything wrong, while they are the ones trespassing and acting as a threat in the first place.... This really is just a big fat joke tbh, people not willing or being able to see this as a possibility as well

Are you serious
Who the **** provokes anyone to attack anything with nuclear weapons. North Korea has always been a mess for quite some time. Have you never heard of the Korean War? Point where to where I stated anything that excuses the justification of the Iraq War. Do not put words in my mouth, thanks. Trespassing? I'd find a link but I'm in mobile sO. I suppose North Korea waving their water guns around like a child isn't being a threat? Maybe threatening to send nuclear weapons isn't a threat? NNNNNN at you.
Wallow in your anti-USA statements though. You sound ridiculous

The one sounding ridiculous is you though. I love the US, I even majored in their culture and literature, I just don't like their military and war faring and I never anywhere said anything about them hoping to start a nuclear war Also, I studied the World Wars, the Korean War and colonialism, so please don't go there
Yes North Korea is different from what we are used to, it's a totalitarian dictatorship, but other cultures cannot attack them on those grounds, because that's their culture and they don't know 'better' or different. They think our Western society is wrong with our democracy, wealth etc. None of these cultures and societies is better, because we all think ours is better because of our culture and education. We were taught those communist totalitarian dictatorships were wrong and they were taught that our society is wrong... We should just leave the country be and ignore them, then they wouldn't be able to threaten anyone or start a war with anyone, because if they did then the entire world would know it was them and then you'd have a good reason to go to war, but it's not a good reason if SK together with the US keeps provoking them and they provoke back... What would you expect them to do? Nothing? NK doesn't have anything else to threaten with but nuclear weapons, seeing as they don't have anything else
Also, I never said that NK's threats with nuclear weapons aren't threats, I don't see where you got that from tbh

Are you even sure about that? Let's be real we know NOTHING about North Korea. All of our thoughts about that country are all hearsay. No news no nothing. Very few tourists can go to North Korea every year. We get pictures but their lips are sealed.
I know the US is a ****ing problem as well and should've kept their big mouth shut and let the UN handle this but the US doesn't deserve to be blamed as a whole since North Korea is a big ****ing mess ever since. They are both liable for whatever will happen and this will only worsen when China suddenly sides on North Korea. Probably not now but it is highly possible in the near future. This is very alarming since it will not only be between the 4 countries mentioned (China, N Korea, S Korea and the US). The war will extend to a total of 7 (The Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam) because of other endeavors China is busy with.
The war if ever will start on Asia. The Korean War. The battle of the Spratly's and Sabah. If you don't know the other 2 google them.
It's all chained together and not only one country is to blame. But this is mostly the US fault. I agree with you on that. They should seriously try to mind their own ****ing business because they are the reason why some parts of the Middle East is a ****ing mess right now as well.

I agree with most of what you said and yes, of course NK is a big steaming mess, which is why it should be left alone, so there's no provocation. The US isn't solely to blame, South Korea is as well and a lot of other European countries are partially to blame for their colonial past, I mean, the UK, France, and The Netherlands's histories are all really shocking, I was disgusted when I found out what my country has done in all those overseas territories.
NK doesn't have anything at other countries except nuclear weapons, that's all they've got to threaten with though. Going by their test launches I suspect they can't do real damage to the US, not even Hawaii, It's not like they got the money to buy dozens or even A dozen of missiles that could carry nuclear war heads. I think China/Russia etc will try to stay out of it if they can, but if something happens I'm sure it'll turn into WW III and Europe will start interfering as well because they are part of the NATO etc. Which is exactly why I think it's important for the US to back out of it and have both SK and the US stop their joined military training near the border. Asia does not deserve nor need to be the place where WW III starts/takes place and it would be ridiculous and awful if the US was (part of) the reason that that does happen

Lol, yeah bad plan. The only thing China is going to do in the event of a "Second" Korean War is seal off the Yalu frontier to prevent an influx of NK refugees They have pretty much no incentive to ally in conflict with NK and much more to lose. Plus, China has flat-out said they won't get involved in a Korean conflict. True, they said the same thing during the First Korean War before changing their mind and sending in a million troops to reinforce the North when it looked like the UN forces, but that was Maoist China, not the globally integrated and less ideologically motivated PRC of today.
But I would be pretty shocked if anything substantial came of this. They didn't go to war when the North torpedoed a South Korean ship and killed 46 sailors three years ago, and they didn't go to war when the North carried out an artillery strike on a South Korean island occupied by civilians at the time (resulting in casualties) later that same year. The South has put up with the Crab Wars, the incursion tunnels dug by the North through the DMZ, abductions of SK citizens by the North since the armistice (3,800), the NK hijacking of YS-11, the NK assassination attempt on President Chung-hee, and NK aggression on the DMZ which has resulted in SK casualties.
I think it's probably more likely that those who've been closely involved in the situation are less fazed right now ("North Korea grandstanding with aggressive rhetoric? What's new.") than those only hearing alarming headlines. But all the aforementioned incidents are why I think comparisons to the Iraq situation are pretty tenuous. I'm no fan of a lot of America's historical foreign policy and agree that our government's inter-meddling has largely been self-interested and has reaped negative consequences that may go on for generations, but that doesn't change what reality is for the Korean people now.
In spite of the North's general incompetence, they are still capable of flattening the second most populated metropolitan area in the world (Metro Seoul = 25m+ people). When the North (as an established nuclear power) has repeatedly threatened to do just that, as well as directing threats in the same manner to the US, it becomes a markedly different case than overthrowing a regime for cheaper oil, even if it is just empty grandstanding.

Let's say they did have the potential to fire anything majorly damaging. Their range is quite small. The UK for instance is quite safe since we're on the other side of the world.

I can't believe until now Asia remains the wick of the candle. Isn't it the 21st Century? We shouldn't be doing **** like this anymore. Asia is still developing.. Can they just leave us alone?

I think it's actually quite pathetic people are still fighting wars and haven't done away with all the nuclear weapons in the world... I mean.. the US has a lot of their nuclear weapons stored in different countries all over the world, why would any country want to have/keep them and what good are they for the US if they don't have access to them right away?

The North Korean citizens are really the biggest victims in all this. The WPK has ****ed them over to such a seemingly irreparable degree.

lol Everyone will be involved in everyone's business. The world has seen the advantages of globalization and that's why countries aren't resorting to isolationism like they used to. Isolationism is what got NK to the stagnant point where they are today. I hope the innocent N.Koreans can escape before fighting starts. Highly unlikely though.

Nuclear weapons will never be done away with. They exist as the weapon that does not need to be fired. If nuclear weapons didn't exist and u didn't have the threat of being wiped out in a single attack, war would probably be more common.
