And it's a shame about it being underrated. Cry is now my favorite ballad-esque song on there even over Already Gone. That beginning and the bridge are soul-slaying.

WYWBMD slays me still. Its just so much fun. I love her voice on it even though she sounds overproduced. lol

Could do without some of the filler though, but the first 6 songs on the album slay lifes.

The only song I usually skip is IDHU and sometimes AG(bc I prefer the live production).

Yeah, I mean I don't hate on it because it has that rock edge to it. Such life. In an album full of flawless earworm bubblegum tracks like My Life, it sounds almost out of place. Although IDHU is a close relative to WYWBMB in nature.

WYWBMD is such a great song to rock out to, love her vocals on it. I hardly listen to any of AIEW anymore and if I do it's mainly AIEW and WYWBMD. IDHU I never really liked from the start.

This x1000000000 Love In These Eyes is one of the best Kelly songs imo. I love her for her dark rock songs like Hear Me, Haunted, Addicted, BTHE and I DEFINITELY NEED MORE OF THEM ON HER NEXT ALBUM!!

I really want Kelly to work with Paul Epworth for her next record. She obviously loves Florence and Adele, so it would be a logical choice. He can give her a more soulfull and mature sound, while Greg Kurstin gives her the power anthems. A perfect combination, I think.

I hope so too.
I do remember Kelly saying in an interview that she and her crew took some notes on production when they went to the Florence concert in England.

I don't know about Greg tbh. He's good, but sometimes I feel his tracks are a little predictable. Kelly needs to work with at least one great A-list producer for a few tracks. I'm missing MLWSWU/SUBG material.

As long as she has at least three good solid and consistently selling singles, I'll be happy. She needs to revamp her staying power throughout an era.

Obviously, I'm not here for Dr. Luke either. And Max is kind of a 50/50 for me since he does PInk's tracks too (not sure on this).
Kelly seriously needs to revamp her sound. Pop/rock is great, but it's getting to be outdated and Dark Side/Honestly/You Love Me are proof that she can bring something new. And I WOULD KILL for her to do R&B again since she was amazing on Thankful (her soulful voice slays on that album).
I think the best thing for her would be to mix and match with both tbh. I agree on the dance, but more in an rhythmic direction. But she also needs to step her game up and do something more conceptually defining in her MVs. And of course, she needs to recruit one solid co-writer. Not saying she has to sell out to be great, just better material, really.

I want her to work with Calvin Harris. His sound is so fresh and people obviously are digging it. Kelly would slay a song like Sweet Nothing/WHYB. (David Guetta is great too, but he's getting a bit boring imo.)

I think she should stick to doing pop with different influences, for example she can have an R&B influenced pop song with Miguel, a dance influenced pop song like Stronger, pop/rock influences like Let Me Down, country influences like Cry etc. It means she can experiment without losing sales/fans.
|
That's what she's been doing for the past 2 albums though.

Nah but she definitely won't go more R&B. That genre is slowly making a comeback but Kelly said herself that her label was trying to push her in that direction on Thankful but it's not the direction she wanted to go in. She can still incorporate pop/rock into her albums and still make it modern and relevant. The reason artists like Kelly, P!nk and Avril have such long careers and consistent(ish) sales is because they don't alienate their core fanbase. They all keep some elements of pop/rock in their albums, which honestly is a great thing.

Get that smash with Miguel, Kelly.
Yeah, I forget sometimes, but still R&B is so rad now that I truly discovered the slayage of it. Although I'm always here for her. You actually got what I was trying to say (although I'm a mess in that last post of mine ). And I only just learned that about Pink yesterday.
And WDKY is still my jam to get me off my lazy butt. Cry is amazing and the kind of song I'd support for a country single.

I really think her next record could be a game changer for her. After the succes of Stronger, her recent performances at the Grammy Awards and at Obama's Inauguration, and hopefully the succes of People Like Us, I have the feeling that she really got the attention of the main audience again for the first time in 6 years or so. She struggled with My December and AIEW but in 2012 she really made a strong comeback. She could be an Adele-kinda artist, but she has to ditch the bubblegum sound and her next record needs to be more focused. Stronger and AIEW were to all over the place.

If you take a look at her singles since IDNHU:
Already Gone
Don't You Wanna Stay
Mr. Know It All
Stronger
Dark Side
Catch My Breath
Don't Rush
People Like Us
I know they are obviously pop songs, but I think they sound a little more mature and I wouldn't really describe them as 'bubblegum'.

You tried, but you can't compare Electra Heart to Kelly's sound. It's different. Sorry.

AIEW is an incredibly underrated album. That old label management totally put Kelly between a rock and a hard place. I only hope this new management does her justice, tbh.
Overall, in spite of my messy gripes, I'd be here for her making a song (with a production that isn't overdone) that is pure earworm like MLWSWY with longevity in mind. I think Because of You comes close to this in mind.
And I was surprised at how well MKIA did for an unorthodox lead single.

I'm here for Kelly ditching the bubblegum sound, too. At least for half the album. I really, really want a mature, fresh sound from Kelly. She has such potential and talent and it's wasted on most of her own material. We see her true talent come out in her covers and that's not the way it's supposed to be.
