I do actually feel that's an issue that needs to be discussed between the mods. It's never happened to me, but I have seen plenty of members have their threads closed or their original post warned because they didn't include a popstar or musician (in my observation, a majority of the time, it's the exclusion of Lady Gaga that forces a closed poll or discussion thread or a warned member). Why is it
mandatory to include certain popstars and not others? You're essentially forcing a singular opinion onto a member. In Toxicity's example -- yeah, so he left out Lady Gaga, but whether it was intentional or not is moot. As you mentioned, he "didn't
have to choose only one," conversely, he doesn't
have to include Lady Gaga, either, because it's subjective. Not everyone in the world believes 2008 was "this celebrity's breakout year" over another celebrity. It's not a definitive truth that "2008 was Lady Gaga's year" just like it's not a definitive truth that "1999 was Britney Spears' year." Those are just opinions, no matter how big the artist is now or was then, it's still just an opinion. Thus, I would strongly argue it's illogical, even unseemly, to warn a member or close a thread, just because they decided to exclude a musician or celebrity from the discussion or from the original post, despite whether it's intentional or unintentional.
Discussion doesn't have to be "all-inclusive."
