Brown hair certainly suits Britney Spears.
The former blonde beauty debuted her new ‘do at Elton John's star-studded AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party at West Hollywood's Pacific Design Center, and now we have all the exclusive details on Brit-Brit's transformation.
"Britney has wanted a change for about a month, but we waited a while until we decided to go with it," Spears' colorist Brittany Hunter from Mark Slicker Salon exclusively tells E!. "We wanted to make sure she was going to be committed to it before we made the change as it can be a difficult process going from light blonde to brunette. We started the process on Thursday and then finished it up on Sunday. We wanted to make sure the color was going to stick and it wasn't going to fade."
Looks like a job well done! We adore Britney's new ‘do, and turns out, the pop star also helped to decide on the specific hue:
"Over the past month we both pulled out general pictures from magazines that we both like and then we collaborated on the color. I wanted to keep her as close to her natural color as possible, so not too dark. In the end we went with a very natural and rich light brown. We wanted the right tone that would complement her skin color," Hunter explains.
As for Brit-Brit's overall reaction?
"She was very happy with the result. She was just ready for a change," Hunter says of Britney's new hair. "Going from blonde to brunette can be difficult, and I am very particular about making sure that I get the color level just right. I wanted to look after the health of her hair at the same time."
And Britney's colorist certainly knows best, considering that the twosome have worked together before.
"I've been working with Britney since 2011. I met her through her sister Jamie Lynn, as I used to do Jamie Lynn's hair. We've been working together on and off, but I have been back with her since the beginning of this year."
We're not surprised the "Scream and Shout" singer is pleased because the gal looks great, and Hunter thinks Spears' shift to the dark side will be
a permanent transformation for the pop star.
"I do think she will stick with it. She seems very happy."
As she should be! You look amazing, Brit!

Wait, Does Britney's "Breakover" Mean She's Not on a Downward Spiral?
After calling off her engagement and leaving The X Factor, Brit-Brit was on a bad luck streak. But now things are looking up!
Britney Spears has been having a rocky couple of months, but you wouldn't know it to look at her. The "Scream and Shout" singer showed up fashionably late to Elton John's Oscar-viewing party on Sunday,
sporting a new brunette 'do, a sophisticated plunging-neckline dress, and natural-looking makeup.
That's right -- Britney got a breakover!
Naturally, a breakover is a makeover inspired by a breakup. (Not to be confused with "breakdown." In Britney's case, this is an important distinction.) For Spears, the new look is a double rebound; not only did she split from fiance Jason Trawick in January, but she also broke up with The X Factor. Historically, Spears doesn't handle drama so well, so fans had been anxiously waiting for her to get back on her feet.
Thankfully, Sunday's appearance at the super-exclusive charity party signals good things. The singer looked radiant and healthy. Her hair and makeup were relaxed and confident, while her dress walked the fine line between sexy and elegant. This was a deliberately put-together look, meaning that somebody is still looking out for Britney's image now that Trawick is out of the picture.
We have to say, we're loving this sophisticated new Britney! It's about time that the 31-year-old mother of two stopped acting and dressing like a teenager. Plus, the darker locks and classy layers are a huge improvement compared to that trashy blonde weave she was rocking during the X Factor.
There are other positive signs of change, too. She's rumored to be in talks for a Las Vegas residency, which seems like a smart way for Spears to stay in control for a while. Plus, she's got a new man: a non-show-biz guy named named David Lucado, who took her out for sushi on Valentine's Day.
We have high hopes for Brunette Britney, and we'd say she's off to a good start.
