Oh, that definitely makes sense. A "fake it 'til you make it" policy.
The only thing is with the singles is that I feel their album sales hurt their single sales. I would much prefer that if I cared, but everyone who is going to buy these songs already has the album, you know?
So they only really have streaming/videos to support them because airplay and sales won't be fantastic.

Oh I agree. It is definitively harder to sell singles when you entire target audience already owns the album. However, looking at Taylor and Adele it is certainly still possible. Plus Live While Were Young didn't exactly slay the sales chart (went platinum....but barely) and it did not have that obstacle so I don't see that as being the reason that they have had struggles lately.
They do need to try to broaden their audience a but. However, I am not sure they will even try. They and their management seem content to sit on their hands making millions of dollars of 13-18 year old girls. They might be too scared of alienating their core demographic to even attempt a grab at mainstream radio.
To be perfectly honest. While I think there are songs on the album that could do well. There were never any SMASH hits on it. I don't think any amount of promotion could change that. I hope they do a bit more mainstream with their next album.
