Nicki was 100% right, and it's pretty obvious she was pressed because of what a lot of people say about her pop/rap scheme (even myself). Despite Nicki overreacted anybody that doesn't understand what Nicki is saying should not be talking about music period. The best music transcends genre and shouldn't be labelled for the sake of it. It's quite transgressive they were grilling the girl to pick a side when music is so much more than that. The contestant could do a mixture, both styles or something completely different if she wants. This and the other contestant that was rapping proves the other judges should be removed from the panel because their opinions are rooted in the 60s.

I kinda understand why Nicki is defending that girl, because she wants to be a singer, and her career not started yet they try to put label and put her in a box (she was 100% Country tho in her song)...

Way to over analyze, man :lol: I think what Nicki meant was that they should let her say what she wants instead of telling her she should do country or non-country which forces her to agree with what they say as judges. I agree with her on that, but that was not the main problem, the problem was Nicki just wasn't having it this episode from the first moment and you could tell, she was just annoyed by a lot of the things said so it was kinda the breaking point for her. With all that said, what the judges asked was nothing special towards the girl, they've asked each contestant this question so I didn't understand the over-reaction. In the end it was just an exhausting petty things that added up.....

This fight was absolutely uncalled for and could have easily been deterred. First let me say I understand both sides and I agree with both. I agree with Nicki in that Mariah, Keith, and Randy shouldn't have pressured the girl into retracting her statement even though the way she said "that country thing" was kinda rude and dismissive. On the other hand, I agree with Randy when he said her voice is more suited for country and such. I understand where they are coming from because they are trying to imagine this girl as a product so they're trying to see which market they can sell her to and where she would do the best. This wasn't the first time that a contestant was asked what genre they'd like to do or what genre is best suited for them (this was done on past season too, if I remember correctly) so I didn't understand Nicki's dramatic reaction to it. I get that Nicki is for letting the contestants choose their fields etc (which I agree with) but you cannot **** a product not knowing what's inside and that was Randy, Mariah, and Keith's point. I think they (especially Nicki) were exhausted and wasn't just having it that day (you can tell from Nicki's face and body language the WHOLE time). Another thing, I don't think Randy was trying to be mean when he said that he had 30+ years of knowledge, I think he means he knows what he's talking about and Nicki's reaction was just over the top.........

Let me say as a side note however, I was surprised about the argument being Mariah and Randy vs. Nicki as opposed to Nicki vs Mariah. They way they maid it seem like Mariah brought her resume up which was what Randy did. I also like to see where the people that said Mariah bullied Nicki are because there was no bullying to be found.

I love how in Day 2 they were back to normal like nothing happened.......SCRIPTED mess. They had me though, I thought they were blood nemesis but they're over it from what I could tell.

Sorry for this college essay guys but I really enjoyed the show and their interactions.

Nicki obviously hates when someone is pressured into talking about what genre they want to be in since she was bashed for "going pop." You can tell that it still bothers her, and is an insecurity.

Randy and Mariah weren't pressuring her into being a country star. They were just trying to get a feel for what she wanted to be. Yes, Nicki was right that it was too early for her to choose, but if this was a record label they would ask the SAME EXACT QUESTION. If she wants to do her own thing she can just be indie, but those questions would come up sooner or later.

Randy's "30 year comment" was a cut to Nicki's pride and was uncalled for, but she didn't have to walk off the panel like a 5 year old. She could have said "Can I have one minute" and walked away then came back. All of the yelling was stupid and made her look like bad guy even though Randy was instigating the fight just as much.

Nicki needs to stop taking the "artist questions" so personal Mariah and Randy shouldn't have ganged up on her, but they weren't wrong at all for asking the girl those questions. Did it feel like an interrogation at points? Yes

Wait Nicki was right in the overall message, but she should have phrased it a little differently.

I would hate someone restricting me to a genre. Music is music in the end. And why would you restrict someone to a genre when you have themes like country night or rock n' roll night.

I know all the artist on the panel have had to pay dues to get to were they are now however Nicki just got out the struggle so it freshest in her mind so I can see why she's fighting for the contestants.

I get where Nicki came from and I can actually understand her getting defensive over the other judges immediately trying to "pigeonhole" this girl in some ways. Nicki has had equal hands in rap and pop and as someone who gets criticized by the hip-hop community for stepping so heavily into pop sometimes, it's understandable for her to be annoyed by them basically trying to make this girl say "Ok, I'm a country singer". Granted, people don't fare well in this competition without a decided upon "sound" and image, but I do get her being irritated. Also, Mariah kind of came across like a bitch with the way she seemed to be condescending Nicki in the discussion. Randy as well, particularly by implying that because of his experience, he was properly trying to help this girl, which in turn did kind of insinuate that someone with just a few years in the game like Nicki could not do the same. She did kind of overreact a bit while walking off, but I can't say she was totally wrong here.
