06 | MAROON 5
"One More Night" |
WRITE-UP:
When this was confirmed to be the follow-up single for Overexposed, I was really disappointed. I could not see the beauty of the track especially with the very common title it has. I was seriously loosing my interest with Maroon 5 with this song. I ignored this track from its release way back in June up to the early part of September. What makes me decide to give this song a try is its performance on Billboard Hot 100, its music video started to be played a couple of times on MTV and the radio slowly pick this up. I try listening to this song repeatedly until I got the hang of it. One More Night has a different sound compared to the other singles Maroon 5 had released. It has this upbeat reggae-flavored melody all throughout that makes this surprisingly good. When this song eventually spent a total of 9 weeks at the top spot, I am convinced that this will be one of the biggest songs of 2012 and it definitely should be somewhere in my top 10 list as well. I was really addicted to this song for five weeks on which that time it was my #1 song. As of the moment, it is currently on its 19th week in my countdown proving that I'm really hooked to this song. One More Night is an example of turning the feeling of hate into a feeling of love. If I did not give this song a chance, this could probably be somewhere around 81-90. Maroon 5 definitely had an amazing success for 2012; One More Night contributes one-half of that success.

05 | KELLY CLARKSON
"What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)" |
WRITE-UP:
The original American Idol makes her way inside the top 5 with her biggest single of the year. Kelly Clarkson has been one of the consistent vocalist for the past decade and she truly deserve to earn another big hit in her career. What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) surprisingly did very well in the charts compared to the lead single Mr. Know It All. Stronger has this signature sound which Kelly did in her early smash hits. Kelly Clarkson makes her appearance in my top 10 after quite some time since Behind These Hazel Eyes on 2005 and Already Gone on 2009. If I will make a quarterly list of the songs I've enjoyed for last year, Stronger will definitely top the first quarter. I was happy that Kelly Clarkson scored another #1 hit on Billboard Hot 100. What I like about this song is the message behind which focuses on the theme of empowerment. The song is inspired by the Friedrich Nietzsche quote "That which does not kill us makes us stronger". Kelly Clarkson also attempts a little choreography on the music video but I see is she was really struggling to do it. I have a mix feeling about it though. It's a good thing this one was released on the beginning of 2012 where I really appreciated its beauty the entire year. Kelly Clarkson just proves that even though there is already a dozen set of American Idol winner, she shows that she is the most successful among them all.
2009: LAD GAGA "Bad Romance"
2010: LADY GAGA F/ BEYONCE "Telephone"
