I'd be soooo embarassed as a stan if she released music independently. I mean, isn't that what Ashlee Simpson is doing this time around? I'm even embarassed for Ashlee and I'm not even a stan. Imagine if Hilary did.. She would flop so hard. I want her to have success this era and at least have her talked about more. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Hilary did release independently. Eww how is releasing music independently embarrassing? Plenty of formerly successful artists have gone that route and have done well. Radiohead, Amanda Palmer, and Blink-182 is currently experiencing modest success with their self-released EP. A major label is likely going to not look into her best interests, at least not at the moment.

Ashlee Simpson is a really terrible example. You guys are just bringing her up because she's a pop act. But the fact of the matter is Ashlee did nothing to promote her single release and it is now long forgotten.

LIGHTS is a better example, she's an independent artist and she's doing fairly well. She's not even a household name like Hilary, sure you don't see her on the talk shows but her singles do well. I would miss the press part mostly.

Independent artists can still do the press rounds, they mostly have to work their connections. And distribution deals that only release the album (and have almost no say on the actual work) allow for better promo.

Idk I just can't see her meshing very well with any major label at the moment, seeing as how she wants to do things on her own pace and her way...

If I were her, I'd release at least an EP independently before signing anything major, UNLESS she does find the ideal deal. She's a lot like her mother now-a-days in that way.

I could totally use a 5-track EP in the Spring or Summer though.

Tbh I don't even care if she goes independent or not as long as she went about it the right way.

I wish we had gotten Smile. That title gives me good vibes.

I would rather Hilary sign to a major label first and then release two promo singles before she releases the album, just to test the waters and see where she currently stands with the general public and radio. The first single needs to be really radio friendly and the second one should test the waters and be a little bit more out there. Hilary doing anything independent now is just not good, to me, because I don't think the promotion would be there, she needs support from a major label.

I think the writer of ^ that song confirmed that he submitted the song to Hilary's team and they considered it, but ultimately passed on recording it.
